Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder benefit from consistent routines, visual information for learning, and support in understanding the social context of the classroom and playground.

Course Aim

Supporting Students With ASD will provide attendees with the knowledge and tools to support their students’ engagement and participation in the classroom and to help to develop their social connections with peers.

Course Outline

The workshop will provide educators with information and tools for:

  • a clear understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • creating a classroom environment for successful routines
  • using visual schedules successfully for daily routine and learning tasks
  • supporting the student to regulate their behaviour and increase on-task learning
  • using timers successfully and appropriately
  • writing social stories to share social messages
  • teaching play and peer interaction skills
